I watched my students struggle to communicate across dividing lines. Most weren\u2019t curious enough to try to understand a differing point of view, and many were afraid to speak up at all, unsure how they\u2019d be treated for it. The same habits crept into the staff room. And if I\u2019m honest, into me. I was self-censoring too, at school and in my PhD program.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ac64863 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ac64863\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>So I set out to become a better learner and thinker myself, especially in tumultuous times and now in the age of AI. That search led me to intellectual virtues, and I\u2019ve been exploring ever since how they shape our academic, professional, and interpersonal lives.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3e9fd4d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3e9fd4d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The mission<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-69236a2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"69236a2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To help every school community treat intellectual character as seriously as it treats intellectual ability. I\u2019ve worked part-time in restaurants, sold in corporate America, started an education business, taught in a classroom, tutored one on one, and now conduct research at an education nonprofit while completing my PhD. Across all of it, in myself and in others, I\u2019ve seen firsthand which dispositions of learning and thinking make someone successful.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f2f74ae elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f2f74ae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Second, I don\u2019t lecture or run workshops from the position that I have something to teach you or your students. The truth is I\u2019m still grappling with these ideas myself.
